This summer, Arvest Ballpark will be playing host to a pitch competition. But not the kind of pitches it normally sees.
Three entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to have video pitches broadcast during a live baseball game at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale. This in-game pitch competition, the first of its kind in Arkansas, is a collaboration between Startup Junkie and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals minor league baseball team.
While the Naturals are playing the Midland Rock Hounds on Aug. 29, three videos will be shown to the crowd. Fans will then have the chance to vote on their favorite pitch. The winner will receive a $1,000 check, which will be presented to them on Sept. 2 at the ballpark.
“The opportunity for entrepreneurs to pitch their idea during a live baseball game will provide great exposure to new ideas and hopefully inspire new businesses to be created from the event,” Startup Junkie Executive Director Haley Allgood said. “We’re combining innovation with our nation’s past time in what I know will be an evening of fun for everyone involved.”
The three finalists who will have their videos broadcast will be selected during an IdeaFame Online Pitch competition, which is scheduled to launch in July. In the online competition, participants must submit a 30-second video of their pitch. The three finalists will be chosen by a panel of judges.
During the August game, the three finalists will join the Startup Junkie team at the ballpark’s concourse, where they can pitch their ideas directly to fans. Members of the Startup Junkie team will also be scheduling appointments for free consulting at the game.
“Holding an IdeaFame Live pitch competition during a professional baseball game potentially allows us to introduce a new audience to our region’s incredible entrepreneurial community,” Allgood said. “Our team will be on site to tell prospective clients how they can schedule free consulting meetings with us.”
Details for submitting videos for the online pitch competition are expected soon.
