UAMS Hosting Day of Giving Campaign Oct. 2

The state’s only health sciences university is looking to break its own record this year by raising more donations than ever before.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is holding its second annual Day of Giving on Tuesday, Oct. 2. The fundraising campaign has set a target of $400,00 in donations within 24 hours. In 2017, UAMS raised over $356,000 in 24 hours, which was the largest single day donation drive in the university’s history.

From Oct. 2 at a p.m. to Oct. 3 at 6 a.m., individuals can call in, make donations online or give donations in person at the UAMS Offices of Institutional Advancement. To make a donation by phone, contact 501-686-8200 during normal business hours. Online donations can be made here.

The university’s annual budget amounts to almost $1.5 billion, but state appropriations only cover six percent of that amount, according to a UAMS press release. A large portion – up to 75 percent – of the budget is covered by patient care. Private donations are often needed to cover the gap.

In the press release, UAMS Chancellor Cam Patterson described the Day of Giving as a way of advancing the institution’s mission and as a means to contribute to the health of over three million Arkansas citizens.“The Day of Giving is about the community giving back to UAMS to advance our mission, and I’m excited to see how much we can accomplish in 24 hours. This is a personal commitment that we make to improve care for 3 million Arkansans,” he says.

The funds raised during the 24-hour campaign will go towards supporting programs, funds, colleges or institutes designated by the donors. All donations are tax deductible.

Donors and supports are encouraged to share on social how UAMS has made an impact on them. Use the hashtag #UAMSDayofGiving to share your story about UAMS.
