Starting from a strong focus on patient- and family-centered care and offering a wide array of women’s health services, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is the best choice in Arkansas for women ready to take charge of their own health care.
Most people think UAMS is for adult patients only. While true for most of our clinical programs, our OB/GYN clinics can accept girls as young as 12 and even younger, should she have menstrual or other gynecological problems.
Many girls and women prefer to see a female doctor for gynecological issues, and UAMS has the largest female practice in Arkansas.
From yearly examinations to the most specialized procedures, UAMS has physicians and staff at Women’s Health Clinic at Freeway Medical to provide gynecological services and high-risk obstetric care; labs and other equipment at UAMS Financial Centre Parkway to offer a wide range of tests and services; and the UAMS Women’s Clinic at Cedar and 8th for the full spectrum of women’s health care, too.
Many couples experience infertility. The UAMS Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology Clinic offers a wide range of services to turn the dream of a healthy baby into a reality. The clinic’s services include minimally invasive procedures such as artificial insemination and can treat a diverse array of conditions that affect reproductive health from uterine fibroids and endometriosis to miscarriage and recurrent pregnancy loss.
UAMS birthing suites are private and come with a recliner, private shower, free television and enough room for the entire family when you’re ready to have a baby. Classes on pregnancy and delivery also are available for expectant mothers.
When you have a high-risk pregnancy, UAMS maternal-fetal medicine specialists have the expertise you need. Our board-certified maternal-fetal specialists have the skills and experience in high-risk pregnancy management to provide the best care in person or through a telemedicine consultation with you and your local physician.
The UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Breast Center has some of the most advanced technology available in the country and offers all forms of breast imaging, including 3-D mammograms proven to increase the accuracy of mammography. The Gynecological Cancer Clinic at the Cancer Institute cares for women with all stages of gynecologic cancer.
Beyond physical health, the Women’s Mental Health Clinic at the UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute also can aid with mental health services. Postpartum depression, miscarriage, loss, major transitions, illness and other physical changes may overwhelm a woman’s ability to cope and disrupt daily living. Whether pregnant or struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues or even difficulty getting pregnant, the clinic at PRI has staff experienced in helping you cope.
A woman experiencing health issues related to perimenopause, menopause or post-menopause can consult with expert gynecologists at UAMS. The Thomas and Lyon Longevity Clinic at the UAMS Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging is uniquely qualified to handle the needs of senior women.
From her teens to her later years, UAMS is here for the health care of all women.
