Using crime rates from 2016, CBS News ranked Little Rock as one of the 10 most dangerous cities in America.
CBS News reports that in 2016, the nation as a whole experienced a 3.4 percent rise in violent crime as compared to 2015. The news organization used violent crime data from the FBI to determine its list of the most dangerous cities. At the bottom of the list is Nashville, Tennessee, coming in at No. 25. Chicago, Illinois and Washington, D.C. are also on the list, but both rank lower than Little Rock, at No. 24 and No. 18, respectively.
CBS News ranks Little Rock as No. 9, with a violent crime rate of 1,531 per 100,000 residents and 42 murders in 2016. The city’s aggravated assault rate – which is four times the U.S. average – contributed to the ranking, according to CBS News.
Detroit, Michigan comes in at No. 1 on the list. St. Louis, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee also rank high in the top 10.
