UAMS has kicked off remodeling work on a new $6 million UAMS Family Medical Center in the Jefferson Professional Building II in Pine Bluff.

UAMS Chancellor Cam Patterson, M.D., was on hand at the renovation kick-off ceremony, along with Jefferson Regional Medical Center and UAMS officials, Tuesday at the Jefferson Professional Building.

The project involves remodeling 33,000 square feet of space on two floors of Jefferson Professional Building. UAMS will merge three clinics in Pine Bluff and the physician residency program, located at UAMS South Central Regional Campus, into the renovated space.

“UAMS South Central and the Family Medical Center-Pine Bluff are showing here today that their commitment to patients, enhancing the patient experience and improving health outcomes will continue well into the future,” Patterson said in a UAMS press release. “From our Little Rock campus to Pine Bluff, from Jonesboro to Texarkana and northwest Arkansas, UAMS is working to improve patient care for all Arkansans statewide.”

Renovation work is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2018, and physician residents are projected to move into the building in January. UAMS will lease the space from Jefferson Regional Hospital and will pay the cost for the renovation over 20 years.
